Today has turned out to be great. After a bad day at work, turned on my laptop to check my emails. Surprise, surprise, I have had my first ever accepted story and it PAYS.
Floating on air at the moment. Writing is a hard slog with sometimes no reward but with hard work and listening to fellow writer advice, your dreams can come true.
Off to have a celebratory drink - well the first sell only happens the once.

A First for me
I was interviewed by the Police today- oh, don't worry, I wasn't in trouble. Had to confirm a telephone conversation.
It's strange that in todays modern world, where at a click of a button, anyone can know where anyone else is - or can they?
Having been contacted by this particular Policeman, I was asked to ring back on a number. I tried and tried and tried without any success, the phone just kept ringing and ringing with no voice mail cutting in. Eventually I managed to get through to a Duty Sargeant and was told not to bother contacting again problem had been sorted. Okay, fine by me,which it was, until I had a call saying that I would be arrested for obstruction - obstruction of what, I followed to proceedure.
I put in a complaint and today was visited by alovel lady who was investigation by complaint. After filling her in with the details I ended by saying, it would have be so simple if I could have left a message on a voicemail.
"Oh," she said, "there had been a problem with the voicemails, been going on for about six months and no one reported it."
So the phone never rings at the Police Station - no wonder crime figures are up.

I have just finished reading 'No Time For Goodbye' by Lynwood Barclay, fantastic page turner, couldn't put it down.
It tells the story of teenage Cynthia, who wakes up one morning to find her parents and brother have disapeared. Twenty-five years later she appears in a television show about her families disappearence and waits for answers.
The story is told from the POV of her husband as he follows his wife through her search for the missing links.
What I liked about it was how the writer keeps you guessing all the way through, at no point fdid I guess the ending but with twists and turns where you begin to doubt Cynthia's sanity, to her daughter who can't understand why her mother is so protective of her.
If you are looking for a good read and page turner, this is the one for you.

The sun shone today, first time for ages. I've been off work for the whole week and just as I;m about ready to get back to work the little darling pops it's head out from below those dark grey clouds that have hung low in the sky all year.
I'm not looking forward to the winter, it just seems to be an extension of the summer this year: greys days, dark nights: trying to pull yourself out of bed in the morning wishing the sun would shine through the bedroom curtains. Oh well, there'll be more time for writing I suppose, can't do the garden in the dark, can you?
On another subject, I'm not very computer savvy. Oh, I can sort out Word okay and get on the internet, post a few files etc. I've even bought a digital camera with the hope of understand the workings of it, the days when you click a button, wind a film and send it off to be developed seem to have long gone. Anyway the camera is on my 'to do' list. I'm sure it will be okay but I have to take a deep breath before tackling the problem.
Anyway, back to the problem I had today; my printer decided it wasn't going to work. Frustrating or what? I wanted to print off a story I had written the so some editing; it so much easier striking through the paper with a Red pen rather than working on the screen. So I clicked on the printer in the control panel and decided to give the printer a good clean. Action completed I tried again, only to discover that it needed a new cartridge - stupid or what? Anyway now sorted and my printer is happy again.

Today I've started to blog. Not sure what to do at the moment but I'm sure I'll learn as I go along.
A little about myself. Age - I think I'll leave out, let's just say I'm a 60's girl, well teenager, if you must know. I've done the boring stuff, got married, had one child, become a grandmother and finally became a widow.
That's when I finally began to write. First off it was a diary when my husband contracted cancer, a memory that I wanted to keep. After the grieving I carried on writing, short stories mainly and when I finally think I'm ready I hope to publish a few but as I have been told many times before with writing you are always learning - I must confess I do agree, I learn everyday.
Okay enough about my past life, I want to keep a diary (I know, I've done this before and given up after a few days, hopefully I'll stick to my promise this time.
So what about today - last day of my holidays, haven't been anywhere, it's just so wet and dull and the heavy clouds just seem to hang above my head. Bet it'll be fine on monday when I have to get out of my bed and back to work. Only good thing about rain is that I can sit at my computer all day and just write, my favourite hobby. Anyway if your really lucky I might post a story or two, let me know if you like them or not.
Bedtime now, will post tomorrow.
